Immigration Resources

With the upcoming immigration reform hot in the news.  I thought we should discuss some of the upcoming agenda and recent events.

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals was a program that started last Summer and is a replacement for the Dream Act that was so emotionally sought after for years.  While it is not as comprehensive as the expected Dream Act, many people have been benefiting from it.  As well, it is to be noted that many applications are still in the process.

I-601 A Waiver was a process that will allow for those who do not have a lawful admission and do not qualify for 245(i), a chance to apply for waiver for unlawful presence stateside.  This allows the applicant to remain stateside till the waiver is approved and then the applicant can return for a short period to their home country and attend the interview with the consulate. Estimated time outside the country is several days to several weeks as opposed to months to years.  This program was announced early in the year and became active in March 2013.

Th upcoming immigration reform is still unknown as to how it will affect everyone. However, it will consist of a major overhaul of the current immigration system and significant changes are expected.  One thing most people are hoping for is a similar program as to the amnesty or amnistia.
